United States: The experts from Stanford Medicine identified a natural compound that shares properties similar to the active component within diabetes medication, which is also known for causing weight reduction.

The study in Nature demonstrates how BRINP2-related peptide, or BRP, functions as a natural substance that reduces hunger and enables weight reduction in mice and pigs without causing traditional side effects such as nausea.
The research discovery holds promise to help patients who experience severe adverse reactions from taking Wegovy or Ozempic because it avoids some major side effects like pancreatic inflammation and vision alterations alongside thyroid cancer risk.
What more are the experts stating?
According to assistant professor of pathology Katrin Svensson, “The receptors targeted by semaglutide are found in the brain but also in the gut, pancreas and other tissues,” the Hill reported.
Furthermore, “That’s why Ozempic has widespread effects, including slowing the movement of food through the digestive tract and lowering blood sugar levels. In contrast, BRP appears to act specifically in the hypothalamus, which controls appetite and metabolism,” Svensson noted.
Sales of Ozempic and Wegovy have increased greatly during recent years, yet many patients struggle to obtain these drugs because of shortages and insurance limitations.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that 100 million US adults qualify as obese based on a BMI of 30, and more than 22 million adults fit the classification of severe obesity at a BMI of 40 and higher, the Hill reported.
